- England vs Australia – Leeds, 1981
It took 87 years for such an instance to repeat and once again, England had the better off Australia in some thespian fashion. After batting first, Australia made 401 as opener John Dysen and skipper Kim Hughes were the mainstays with the bat. England, led by Mike Brearley, could only manage 174 as the Australian pacer trio of Lillee, Alderman and Lawson decimated England. England, after being asked to follow on, managed 356 on board as Ian Botham rose to the occasion with a counterattacking 149 off just 148 deliveries. Needing just 130 to win, it was time for yet another special show, this time from pacer Bob Willis. The outspoken pacer went on to demolish Australia, as he took eight wickets to ensure that the visitors were bowled out for 111. It was a game full of eventful individual performances.
