ToggleShreyas Iyer: Matches: 6, Runs: 30
Frankly speaking, pretty big things we were expecting from this 21-year old batsman. He was roped in for a staggering 2.6 Crores by Delhi Daredevils in the 2015 IPL auction, and he didn’t disappoint that season. Iyer rightly won the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’ award in IPL 2015, before enjoying a grand Ranji Trophy season, where he notched 1321 runs at an average of 73.39; only the second player to score 1300 runs in a single season in Ranji cricket’s long history.
He was like one successful IPL campaign away from a berth in the Indian Team. What followed though was a complete nightmare. A total of 30 runs at an average of only 5. These are shocking numbers by any means. As a result, he didn’t get a call from the selectors for either the Tests in West Indies or the ODI’s in Zimbabwe. He would be pulling his hair in frustration as majority of the 1st choice players being rested.
