Statistical Highlights: West Indies Bowl Out Bangladesh For 43

Steve Rhodes’ stint as Bangladesh head coach has started on the worst possible note as the Tigers were humiliated by West Indies in the ongoing first Test in Antigua. The hosts folded up Bangladesh for just 43 to pile more misery on the side which entered the series after being whitewashed 3-0 by Afghanistan in T20Is.

Jason Holder’s decision to bowl first turned out to be spot on.  Kemar Roach sent back Tamim Iqbal for 4 to start the collapse. From thereon, the remaining batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Liton Das was the only batsman to cross the double-digits, scoring 25.  Rubel Hossain’s 6 was the next highest score for the visitors. In fact, 4 batsmen failed to even open their account while two other scored 1 each.

Roach was the destructor-in-chief, picking up 5 wickets for just 8 runs. Miguel Cummins picked up 3 while Holder picked up 2.

Meanwhile, the first innings saw several records being made. So here is a look at some interesting numbers and stats:

1. The 43-run total is Bangladesh’s lowest In Test cricket. Their previous lowest total was 62, they had scored against Sri Lanka in 2007.

2. The 43-run total is also the lowest score by any side against West Indies. It is also the lowest total in Tests since the year 2000.

3. The total is lowest in Tests for any team since India’s 42 against England wayback in 1974.

4. The 18.4 overs faced by Bangladesh was the second shortest 1st innings in a Test ever, only eclipsed by Australia getting bowled out in one ball fewer at Trent Bridge in 2015.

5. Kemar Roach became only the third cricketer alongside Monty Noble and Jacques Kallis to take five wickets in a span of 12 balls.

6. Only Liton Das managed to enter double figures with a score of 25, scoring 58% of the team runs – a record for Bangladesh in Tests.

7. This was also only the sixth instance ever in Tests when the fourth, fifth and sixth batsmen were dismissed for a duck.
