Stats: 10 Batsmen who scored 100 on their ODI debut
Mark Chapman has become the first HongKong batsman to score a hundred in ODI cricket. Champman’s hundred powers Hongkong to post 298 for 4 at ICC Academy in Dubai. Chapman’s century helped Hong Kong to register first ever ODI victory in the first match. Hong Kong defeated UAE by 89 runs. Haseeb Amjad and Anshuman Rath took three wickets each.
Champman has become the 10th international cricketer to score an ODI hundred on his debut. The ICC World Cricket League Championship is going on in Dubai. The 13th match of the tournament was going on between UAE and Hongkong.
Chapman has scored 124 and he was unbeaten. He came to bat at No.4 when Hong Kong lost their second wicket Babar Hayat in the 32nd over of the match. Chapman has played 116 balls.
With this hundred Chapman has become a member of centuries on debut club. He is the 10th man before him late Phillip Hughes has done it in 2013 in Melbourne against Sri Lanka. Hughes opening the innings with Aaron Finch scored 112. Hughes has scored second another hundred against Sri Lanka in the same year in Hobart. But the 26-year-old youngster had died last year after getting hurt by a Sean Abbott delivery on the back of his head in a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and West Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground last year November.
Dennis Amiss of England was the first batsman to score a hundred on debut against Australia at Old Trafford, manchester in 1972. Rob Nicol of New Zealand and Colin Ingram of South Africa have joined the club in the recent past.
Nicol opening the innings with Martin Guptill against Zimbabwe scored 108 at Harare Sports Club in 2011. South Africa opener Colin Ingram also hit his debut hundred against Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein in 2010. Ingram’s 124 innings came off 126 balls.
New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill, who scored a double hundred in the 2015 World Cup, has also scored 100 on his debut match against West Indies at Auckland.
Michael Lumb of England has played only two ODIs after hitting hundred on his debut match against West Indies.
