Left-arm orthodox bowler Ravindra Jadeja has been a revelation both with the bat and a ball as well for India, as he is now listed at the number second position from India among the fastest bowlers to claim 150 wickets in fewest of the Tests.
Jadeja, who took 32 Tests to register his name, in record books to add a new feather to his cap, cleaned up right handed Dhananjaya de Silva on the very first ball duck after it turned and hit the top of the off-stump – to pile up more miseries for the hosts, in the ongoing second Test on Day Three of the three-match Test series at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
However, ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has maintained the first spot by bagging 150 Test wickets in his 29 Tests.
The former off-spinner Erapalli Prasanna and leg spinner Anil Kumble took 34 Test to bag 150 wickets, as off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is listed fourth in the list after reaching the milestone in 35 Tests.
Moreover, the Saurashtra-born 28-year-old has also topped the left arm spinner list from India, who achieved the feat of claiming 150 wickets in fewest of the Test matches.
The quickest among left arm spinners before Jadeja were Vinoo Mankad (40), Bishan Bedi (41) and Ravi Shastri (78).
The wily customer and ranked No. 1 in Tests Jadeja has played an integral part of India, particularly while donning the white jersey as he is listed fourth in the overall spinners list.
Moreover, the leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett from Australia is quickest to reach the 150 scalps in 28 Tests.
The second position is shared by off-spinner Hugh Tayfield from South Africa alongside Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal and Ravichandran Ashwin from India in 29 Tests.
Legendary spinner Shane Warne has shared the third spot with former Australian teammate Stuart MacGill in 31 Tests, as Jadeja has claimed the fourth place in 32 Tests.
Interestingly, Jadeja has replaced Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson in the overall left-arm bowlers’ list. However, the Queensland bowler Johnson had achieved the feat in his 34th Test in 2010.
After making his Test debut in 2012 and international debut in 2009, Jadeja didn’t look back, as he claimed 150 wickets at the phenomenal average of 23.37, in 60 innings of 32 Tests.
Jadeja, who has further the economy of 2.29 while rolling over the arm, has bagged eight five-wicket hauls to his name, in the longest format of the game and has more on an offer to rewrite the history in the upcoming fixtures owing to his confidence and quality performance.
