Stats: Top 5 bowlers who clocked 160 km/h in their career
Australia’s speed star Mitchell Starc is the newest entrant in the elite 160 km/h club. He could be the record holder of the fastest delivery if he could bowl a few second faster. Starc notched up the record of 160.4 km/h delivery midway through the third day of the second Test at historic W.A.C.A ground, Perth, which is known as the heaven for the fast bowler, against New Zealand.
The ripping delivery was a yorker to New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor, who defended the ball well to squeeze the impact. The delivery was shied away from Shoaib Akhtar’s world record mark 161.3 km/h registered against Against England.
Starc, who earlier registered 150km/h quite consistently, has bowled a few 150 km/h deliveries on the third day of the second Test against New Zealand. His scintillating speed was even too much for his teammates as the bowl was taking an edge of the bat and moving anywhere of the ground. One of the deliveries of Starc broke the bat of New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
However, the 25-year-old left-handed bowler is yet to get his first wicket of the day. When his frustration was growing up Nathan Lyon has dropped a catch at third slip when Brendon McCullum was batting on five. Lyon did not have much time to collect the catch as the ball came too fast to his right hand.
In Starc’s next over, Mitchell Marsh tried to collect a tough catch but drop it from his left at slip. It was the catch of Ross Taylor, who got a life and went to score his second career double hundred and become the first New Zealanders to score double hundred against Australia.
Meanwhile, Starc has become the fourth Australian bowler to clock 160 km/h in international cricket. There are three other Australian bowlers who clocked 160 plus in their career -Shaun Tait (161.1 km/h, Brett Lee (161 km/h) and Jeff Thomson (160.6 km/h).
Starc is now 25. So he is in the right track to clock the fastest delivery in the history of cricket. That day is not so far when we have to see Starc has bowled the fastest delivery in international cricket.Starc has so far bowled 25 overs and conceded 75 runs. His first wicket of the day is BJ Watling, who gave a simple catch to Nathan Lyon. Overall Starc got two wickets in the match. On the second day of the match, he got Martin Guptill’s wicket.
