Matthew Hayden

  1. Matthew Hayden 181* vs New Zealand – 2007:

The giant Aussie opener was probably in the form of his life in early 2007 as he ravaged apart the opposition bowlers without mercy. One such effort was against New Zealand at Hamilton in the third ODI of the Chappell – Hadlee trophy. Australia had already lost the series and a win could have been a much-needed respite before the World Cup, which was due to begin in a few days.

Hayden hit 11 boundaries and 10 maximums as his 166 balls endeavour was a complete entertaining effort. Hayden remained unbeaten on 181 as Australia amassed 346-5 in 50 overs. The Aussies were to suffer, as New Zealand won the game despite being 116-5 at one stage, thanks to some incredible chasing prowess from Craig McMillan and Brendon McCullum.
