Virat Kohli and his men continued their fairytale run in Test cricket with yet another win over Sri Lanka. This time it was not just a win, but a monumental one as team India thrashed the visitors by an innings and 239 runs. The mammoth win registered for India’s biggest ever win in Test cricket tied with a one they pulled off against Bangladesh on May 25th, 2007.
The Sri Lankan batting line-up failed to live up to the expectations once again as they got bundled out for comparatively low totals on both occasions. Dinesh Chandimal’s men were packed up for just 205 runs in the first innings which gave India the opportunity to capitalize on the situation. The Indian batting line-up which faltered in the first Test pounced on the chance in style as they piled up a gigantic total of 610 runs with the loss of 6 wickets before declaring.
Skipper Virat Kohli looked like an unstoppable force as he smashed his 5th double hundred in Test cricket shattering a few more records. His 213 run knock was brilliantly supported by three other centuries from the returning Murli Vijay, the consistent Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma. Sharma turned out to be a great pick for the Test side as he finally seems to have transferred his firm grip over ODI cricket to the longest format of the game.
Coming onto bat in their second innings, the Sri Lankan batting line-up were no match for the Indian bowling attack. Ravichandran Ashwin continued his dominance from the first inning to the second as he picked up 4 to his name. The master of the carrom ball finished the Test with eight wickets as Sri Lanka got bundled out for 166 runs in the second innings. Ishant Sharma has a decent return to the line up as he bagged a five-wicket haul.
The Test is memorable in the Indian Test history as skipper Virat Kohli adds another feather in his cap.
