Cricket South Africa (CSA) head coach Ottis Gibson is somewhat expecting a massive punishment after the two Australians revealed it was the tactic of a visiting leadership group.
In all likelihood, the world cricket body, International Cricket Council (ICCI) is set to charge the Australians for the ball-tampering.
Interestingly, the promising batsman Cameron Bancroft could face the one-match ban and the hundred percent match fee while considering the case of tampering with the cherry.
Interestingly, the former Windies maintained it would be important how things will unfold regarding the situation.
“The statement from them said it was the ‘leadership group’ and therefore it was quite a few people involved so we’ll see how the ICC deals with the situation,” Gibson told broadcasting giant SuperSport television.
Following the stumps on Day three of the third and penultimate Test, Australian skipper Steven Smith and opening batsman Bancroft made the public admission of cheating.
However, the New South Wales-based cricketer Smith stood down straightaway as the team leader during the ongoing Test alongside Vice-captain David Warner.
Gloveman Tim Paine is marshalling the troops on the field which we didn’t think of even for a moment.
The former paceman Gibson has also expressed the shock after there was much evidence of the ball-tampering.
“I’m shocked at what’s gone on. I’ve never seen anything as blatant as that,” Gibson maintained.
Following the ball-tampering saga, Cricket Australia remarked to investigate the matter thoroughly.
In the ongoing Test, South Africa is in command after the four-match Test series is levelled at one each.
However, Australia has a strong record when it comes to their tour of the Rainbow Nation.
“From the beginning of the series with all of the stuff that has gone on, I’ve kept saying we need strong officials in a series like this with two tough teams going after each other,” Gibson said.
Moreover, the Prime Minister of the country, Malcolm Turnbull has deemed it as ‘unfortunate’ incident. Turnbull is deeply disappointed whatever has unfolded at the Newlands in Cape Town.
The devious act saw Ottis Gibson reiterating the Dubai-based Board is bound to take action.
“Hopefully, the match officials will take strong action in this situation,” Gibson asserted.
Pertinently, before the act, the behaviour of players was under the spotlight.
The recent furore forced former cricketers to speak over the serious issue after confession made it an easy case.
In his presser, Bancroft somewhat perplexed revealed he is charged with altering the condition of the ball.
