Glenn Maxwell has stated that Steve Smith’s return in Australia’s squad is going to be a big headache for India in the upcoming full-fledged tour starting from November 27.
Last year, Steve Smith and David Warner were missing in Australia’s squad when India toured Down Under. Cricket Australia had banned both the star performers of the country after being found guilty of ball-tampering during the Cape Town test match in 2018. As both are massive contributors for Australia with the bat, their absence made it somewhat easier for India to be in a dominant position.
As a result, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India also first time won the four-match Test series on Australian soil.
But this year Australia will combat India with full force with Smith and Warner back in the squad.
Steve Smith big plus for Australia: Glenn Maxwell
In a recent interaction, Glenn Maxwell has reckoned Steve Smith’s return is a big boost for Australia while a big problem for the visiting nation.
“To have someone like Steve Smith coming back to our side, it is going to be a big plus for us, a big headache for India. Smith has always scored runs against them,” Glenn Maxwell said during a select media interaction organised by series official broadcasters Sony.
Well, this time Team India will be in the same situation as Australia was last year. Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper and batting mainstay, will leave the competitive Test series in between. After playing only the first Test, he will return to India to attend the birth of his first child.
The Test series will begin with a day-night Test match in Adelaide from December 17. The last three Test will be played in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane respectively. Before the Test series, the two teams will also play three ODI and as many T20 internationals.
