Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has made it pretty clear that Steve Smith and David Warner won’t be part of the upcoming Indian Premier League. Both were the captains of their respective franchises. While Smith was the only player to be retained by the Rajasthan Royals, Warner has already led his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to a title win back in 2016. However, the notorious ball-tampering scandal has wrecked whole Australia which has resulted in their omission from the cash-rich league.

The franchises will be getting the replacements as the tainted duo won’t be part of the league. It was Smith and Cameron Bancroft who admitted tampering the ball. Smith further added that the leadership group had hatched a plan during the lunch interval to alter the condition of the ball by applying a foreign substance. It was a yellow tape which a cricketer usually carries a cricket kit. The glue on that tape is very sticky, and it was applied to the ball with some granules on the pitch attached to it.

Smith said he was not proud of what he has done and promised that it won’t happen in future under his leadership. However, as per reports, it is learned that Smith has been stripped off the captaincy for two years and won’t feature in the Australian team even as a player for the next year. The same also applies to vice-captain David Warner.

Bancroft was caught on camera trying to apply the yellow glue on the ball. When coach Darren Lehmann noticed that Bancroft’s act was caught on the camera, he sends a message to Peter Handscomb who was sitting in the dugout. Handscomb went to the ground and said something to Bancroft. Following the incident, Bancroft was seen dropping the object under his trousers. Bancroft said that he was so nervous that made him to it under his trousers.
