Steve Smith & Virat Kohli Escape ICC Sanction After DRS Controversy 1

Putting an end to all the speculations, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced no player has been charged under its Code of Conduct in relation to the DRS incident in the Bengaluru Test.

The home team drew level in the four-match series with a stunning 75-run victory in the second Test. But instead of India’s remarkable win, the match is grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The match was marred with sledging and banters throughout the first three days but the tension reached a different level altogether when Australia skipper Steve Smith was caught red-handed seeking help from the changeroom on a DRS call after being trapped in front by Umesh Yadav on the fourth day.

The Aussie skipper has been severely criticised for his poor conduct with several players even urging the ICC to take action against the Aussie batsman. India skipper Virat Kohli also looked furious with his Australia counterpart’s behaviour and accused him of cheating during the post-match conference.

However, the governing body of the game has decided not to take action against either of them.

“The ICC has confirmed that no charges have been laid against any player under the ICC Code of Conduct following the second Test match between India and Australia in Bengaluru,” the ICC statement read.

“Specifically in relation to Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, the ICC has considered both incidents in the context of this match and concluded it will be taking no further action against either player,” it added.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said: “We have just witnessed a magnificent game of Test cricket where players from both teams gave their all and emotions were running high during and after the match.

“We would encourage both teams to focus their energies on the third Test in Ranchi next week. Ahead of that, the match referee will bring both Captains together to remind them of their responsibilities to the game.”
