If sources are to be believed in, disgraced Aussie captain Steve Smith, is now being contacted by county sides discreetly for upcoming summer.
Creating a loophole in his one-year ban suspension for playing professional cricket at the state and national level, nothing prohibits Steve Smith for playing the sport overseas.
It was only recent that their lucrative IPL contracts were shed into pieces due to the ban imposed on the Australian duo.
According to Standard Sport, it is learnt that post his display of humility and regret, CA’s stance has softned slightly. As a result, it is only a matter of time before we know that Sutherland’s board provides the NOC for him to feature abroad.
In an interesting turn of events, Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, decided not to protest against the ban. They made the announcement via Twitter.
“I have today let Cricket Australia know I fully accept the sanctions imposed on me. Therefore, I am truly sorry for my actions and will now do everything I can to be a better person, team-mate and role model,” tweeted David Warner.
We hope they rebuild their careers and regain the trust of fans: Sutherland
“I would give anything to have this behind me and be back representing my country. But, I meant what I said about taking full responsibility as captain. I won’t be challenging the sanctions. They’ve been imposed by CA to send a strong message and I have accepted them.” Steve Smith posted.
The other day, Somerset confirmed that Cameron Bancroft would not be joining their team this summer.
“These are significant penalties for professional cricketers. Also, they were not imposed lightly. However, we know the players will return to playing the game they love. In doing so, we hope they rebuild their careers and regain the trust of fans,” confirmed CA Chief James Sutherland.
