Steven Smith Unhappy Over Glenn Maxwell’s Disrespectful Comments Against Matthew Wade 1

Australian skipper Steven Smith has slammed his team-mate Glenn Maxwell for the disrespectful comments against the wicket-keeper batsman and Victoria Bushrangers captain Matthew Wade.

As the reports suggested, Sportzwiki has learned that the management group of Cricket Australia have fined Maxwell, which remained unrevealed while filing this report.

“Everyone was disappointed in his comments. I’ve expressed that to him myself and spoke to the team. One of our values is respect, having respect for your team-mates, your opposition, your fans, your media,” Steve Smith was quoted by Cricinfo, a day before the first One-day International match of Chappell-Hadlee Series.

As we often see captain has that right to chalk-out the batting order, but Maxwell seemed angry with the batting line-up set by his skipper Wade, for the domestic Victoria Bushrangers side while calling it a “painful” experience.

“I think probably batting below the wicketkeeper is also a bit painful as well. I think the wicketkeeper should be batting at seven unless you’re trying to squeeze an extra bowler into your line-up,” Maxwell was quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Maxwell in a dramatic fashion, tried to move from Bushrangers to New South Wales for the 2016-17 season and was not released by the Bushrangers leaders due to the terms of his cricket contract with the side.

“Wadey was pretty disappointed as well like all the other players. I talk about a respect for your team-mates and particularly the captain of your state, and he was disappointed,” Smith said.

Smith is of the view that respect should be shown in the team for each other and is hopeful that the unsuitable episode would end soon between the two international cricketers.

“I thought what he said was very disrespectful to a team-mate and his Victorian captain. The leadership group got together and we decided to fine Glenn, we thought that was sufficient punishment, so we’ve gone down that path. I was disappointed with the comments that he made.” Smith concluded.

While focusing on tomorrow’s game, Smith said Maxwell would be available, but did not confirm off playing him for the 1st ODI on December 4.
