“What Jimmy does is, he wouldn’t bowl in the nets every day,” revealed Broad. “He doesn’t train for training’s sake. He is really specific with what he gets out of each session. The fast bowling duo has passed their spring and is on the verge of their cricketing career. As England gear up for another exciting summer of cricket, Stuart Broad and James Anderson have tinkered with their bowling to keep thier dominance going. Stuart Broad revealed they had brought changes to their bowling run-up in the last four-five months.
Talking about his own changes, Broad admitted that he had shortened his bowling stride by 3-4meters. He also revealed that he sought guidance from former cricketers before shortening his stride to improve his rhythm and pace.
“The teller is that both of us have made tweaks to our bowling techniques and with our run-ups in the last four-five months,” explained Broad.
“Jimmy lengthened his in St Lucia because he didn’t feel he had the momentum to get off the pitch. I’ve shortened mine to 16m, by at least 3-4m after conversations with Chris Silverwood, Sir Richard Hadlee, to shorten my stride pattern, help my rhythm and pace,” he added.
Quality over Quantity: Broad
The 36-year-old James Anderson has been England’s most bankable bowler for over a decade now. This consistency, which has helped him bag 862 international wickets, has developed through a rigorous yet smart training routine.
Stuart Broad also urged fast bowlers to focus more on quality rather than concentrating just on quantity. He also said if one stresses too much on quantity he is going to break soon.
