ToggleEngland legend Ian Botham has backed veteran pace duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad to feature in the upcoming 2019 Ashes Test Series.
The pace duo have made significant contributions to England cricket throughout their career. And now with England playing the World Cup and Ashes next year at home, the stakes will be higher.
Ian Botham feels one must look ahead and think about next year. He also feels that pace duo will be keen to go against the Australian side next year.
”I’m not at all worried about them for this series (against India), in the long-term you’d have to think about it . Both of them would want to play against Australia after the World Cup 2019. They would be itching to have a go at the Aussies. Yeah! Most things start getting better with age,” Botham said.
However, asked about the prospect of James Anderson and Stuart Broad retiring at the same time, Ian Botham believes they will not retire at once.
“No.. You have to understand there is the world cup and then there is the series against Australia. England should look to keep that side together, keep that side fit. So, I won’t be thinking anything in this respect till after the Ashes,” Ian Botham maintained.
Meanwhile, their first priority will be the upcoming five-match Test series against India. England have had a tough time in the recent outings and will bank on James Anderson and Stuart Broad to do the job for them.
