Stuart Broad credits Trevor Bayliss for turnaround in second Test

England fast bowler Stuart Broad has credited head coach Trevor Bayliss for his team’s remarkable turnaround in the second Test against Pakistan.

After losing the first Test by 75 runs inside four days, the England team outplayed the visitors in every department to level the four-match Test series 1-1. The home team defeated Pakistan by a huge margin of 330-runs .

Broad said that after criticizing the players for the defeat in the first Test, Bayliss encouraged the player to give their best in the second match.

‘There were some harsh words after Lord’s because we were very disappointed in how we performed,’ Broad said.

‘Trevor’s not shy about letting people know that you can be under pressure from time to time.

“But what he did on the Wednesday at Old Trafford was say, “bowlers go to this corner, batsmen go to that corner and discuss how we’re going to move forward this week, how we’re going to play Yasir, how we’re going to play the reverse swing, and report back to me in 10 minutes.”
‘Then a bowler spoke to the team about how we’re going to try to bowl a bit wider or a bit fuller, keep the slips in longer because of the bounce. And the batsmen said they were going to play Yasir straighter, not try to cut him from a full-length ball.

‘As soon as these words are said to a team the players sharpen up a bit because you’re responsible for something. You come back in the changing room (after a mistake) and the lads say, “what have we just said?!”

Meanwhile, the pacer also praised all-rounder Chris Woakes and said that he will play a big role in Edgbaston, which is the venue for the third Test. Woakes is one of the best players in the series so far and will like to contribute even more in the absence of first choice allrounder Ben Stokes.

‘This week I imagine Chris Woakes will be very influential on field placings for Edgbaston… he’s in the form of his life going to a ground where he’s bowled thousands of overs. That can only be a good thing.’

With seven wins out of 11 Tests and just one loss at Edgbaston, England would be hoping to take an unassailable lead in the series. Broad hailed the supporters
‘We have to take momentum into Edgbaston. We’ve got a great record there and the crowd is awesome,’ Broad said.

The third Test will start from August 3.
