ToggleWindies coach Stuart Law has given Pakistan the thumbs up to host top-flight international cricket again after a successful Twenty20 Internationals series wrapped up on Tuesday (April 3).
Meanwhile, his team went down 3-0 in the series at National Stadium in Karachi, but Law seemed impressed with the security arrangements. Further, Karachi went on to host its first international game in nine years since 2009 gruesome attack at Liberty Chowk in Lahore.
“The security has been outstanding, we haven’t seen any issues, any incidences and anything that may arose was communicated to us very well,” Law briefs media in Karachi.
Since the attack on Sri Lankan team bus, security concerns have been the major reason for overseas teams. However, since then Pakistan has played all their home games at their adopted home; the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Lahore hosted last year’s PSL final and two playoffs this year (2018) where many overseas players refused to play due to security concerns.
However, Stuart Law feels the security arrangements are more than adequate but teams will have reservations before touring.
“Look it’s a bit daunting if you are not used to the (intense security) setup,” Law said.
“I’m not saying that (the West Indies tour) has open the floodgates and everyone come rushing back. Still, people will have reservations, but from what I’ve seen here it’s more than adequate, that’s for sure,” he added.
Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed foreign teams should stop raising security concerns.
“I don’t think now there’s any excuse left with the (foreign) teams not to tour Pakistan,” Sarfraz told reporters.
“Karachi has won (people’s) hearts. I want to say that lot of people are hurt with no cricket in Pakistan, but we will try our best to have more,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Men in Green totally dominated the series against a depleted-looking Windies side. They whitewashed the touring team as cricket returned to Karachi.
The victory strengthened Pakistan’s hold at the top of the world T20 ranking. They are now leading Australia by four points.
However, Pakistan has defeated top-flight teams since Sarfraz took over the captaincy.
