In a strange turn of events, a suicide bomber blew himself up near a checkpoint which was close to a cricket stadium in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan.
As per reports from the officials, the incident killed at least two people, as the match got under way. There were no immediate reports of the casualties recorded, but as per reports in the Tolo News Television, the Afghanistan Cricket Board conceded that all their players were safe and ready to play at any level.
Meanwhile, there wasn’t any immediate claim of responsibility from the players. Cricket has become a top-rated game in the country over the past few years with the origination being the refugee camps of Pakistan.
The Asian country was handed over the Test status along with Ireland earlier in the year 2017, and it was just a testimony to their exceptional performance, of late. They defeated eventual champions West Indies in the group league match during the 2016 World Twenty20 held in India.
Meanwhile, it might also be noted that the Afghanistan team consists of some pretty big names who can change the complexion of the match within a blink of an eye. Mohammad Shehzad is the batsman who can decimate any bowling attack on his given day while Rashid Khan the teenage leg-spinner has troubled many frontline batsmen in the past and proved his mettle even in the Indian Premier League.
