Sunil Gavaskar backs struggling Shikhar Dhawan ahead of ICC World Cup 2015

Indian cricket celebrity Sunil Gavaskar supported Shikhar Dhawan despite of his poor form in the Test series against Australia that preceded the ongoing Carlton mid One Day International triangular series also featuring England.

Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column in Times of India that it is very crucial that India keep trust in Shikhar Dhawan for he is having the ability of taking the match away from the opponent team, but then he also has to demonstrate the patience on the ground that will help him settle down and get the huge runs.

Sunil Gavaskar wrote about how it would make sense for Shikhar Dhawan to be retained, “The white ball hardly moves after half a dozen overs or less, so all that Dhawan needs to do is to choose his shots carefully. Once he gets through that initial period he can always make up in the later overs with the range of shots he has.”

He also discussed the topic about how having a right and left-hand combination at the top of the order is an advantage to the batting side. He said that a right and left hand opening couple is a problematic one for the opponent bowlers as they have to changes their fielding setup and line of attack and it can result in wides and extra balls.
