The former Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar, has put his weight behind Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli who played a superlative innings of 235 in the fourth Test match in Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium. Kohli’s innings came at a time when Indian team was in a tough situation and they were also facing a possibility of conceding the first innings lead to England but Kohli along with Jayant Yadav took India way ahead of England’s total and sealed a win by an innings over the visitors.
A day before Indian team was to seal the win, England pacer James Anderson alleged Kohli of taking advantage from Indian pitches and said that he still has technical flaws in his batting. But Sunil Gavaskar was in all praise for skipper Virat Kohli, who has scored 667 runs in seven innings so far, including a double century as well, “There has never been another like Virat Kohli. The way he batted on a turning track at the Wankhede Stadium and scored 235 was exceptional. On that pitch, a good batsman may be expected to score a century, but Kohli went a notch higher,” Gavaskar said.
Speaking on a changed Kohli, Gavaskar continued to praise Kohli, especially for his changed attitude and for delivering at the correct time, “Temperament separates men from boys. The technique doesn’t change. In temperament Virat Kohli has become stronger,” he said.
It was wise on part of Virat Kohli not to indulge in any direct spat wit Anderson and it was R. Ashwin who answered Anderson in the best way. It shows that captain has full support from his team members and any kind of attack on Indian members is not tolerable, whatsoever.
