Will Pucovski, who is seen as the potential opening batsman for the marquee Test series between India and Australia, sustained a concussion during the first warm-up game between India A and Australia A. Everyone had high hopes from him, but now even his inclusion in the Test series is doubtful. Well, the youngster has a long history of concussion-related injuries. He has suffered similar injuries as many as eight times previously in his career.

However, India’s great former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar doesn’t believe that Indian bowlers would be lenient against Will Puckovski, who is still in Australia’s squad. To stamp the authority, the visiting nation would surely use the delivery (bouncers), which affects the 22-year-old, reckons Gavaskar.

“Definitely. I think you would expect that to happen. Once you enter the ground whether it’s playing for your country, or even playing for your state or club, you’re going to cop it,” Sunil Gavaskar, who is in Australia as a commentator, told the Sydney Daily Telegraph Friday.

“If the word is that you’re not really comfortable against a particular delivery, you’re going to get a lot of it,” he added. “I don’t see India easing up because he’s had a history of concussion.”

During the second innings of Australia A, Will Pucovski was batting on 23 when he was struck on the helmet off the delivery of young India pacer Kartik Tyagi. After being hit, he kneeled down for over a minute in the crease and then was taken out of the field after being attended by the physio. Although he has not been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar series, he is likely to be treated with extra caution before adjudging his place in the Test squad.

Sunil Gavaskar also said that the Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami has got one of the best bouncers in the game.

“He’s got as good a bouncer as any I’ve seen,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

With David Warner’s injury, it was almost guaranteed that the right-handed batsman would play the first Test. But fate had some other plans.
