ToggleThe legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is confident on the relationship between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Gavaskar feels that this story will continue even it has no base.
After the completion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, there was a rumour about the rift between the Indian captain Virat Kohli and the limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Though both were in-form in that tournament and also played their leadership roles very well, this rumour still arose hugely.
Even, the media reports also claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was trying to resolve this issue.
However, just ahead of the tour of West Indies and the USA, the Indian captain Virat Kohli quashed those claims. He claimed that it was an absolutely ridiculous story that darkening their proven success story.

Recently, Sunil Gavaskar has given his view on this story. He feels that this baseless story will not end anyway.
In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar wrote, “Virat and Rohit can shout from the rooftops as much as they can but this story won’t end. Every time Rohit fails there will be those who will nod their heads knowingly and wink, hinting he deliberately got out.”
Whoever starts such stories is definitely not a well-wisher of Indian cricket – Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar has slammed this news spreader as he is confident that the spreader is not a well-wisher of the Indian cricket.
Gavaskar added, “Whoever starts such stories is definitely not a well-wisher of Indian cricket. More often than not it’s a frustrated player in the squad who gives wings to stories like this. His envy and jealousy harm the team. Then, of course, it suits some administrators to play their own game of politics.”
The story won’t stop even 20 years later
Sunil Gavaskar further added that this story was a gift for the media which would not end.
He wrote, “For the media, it’s manna from heaven and so while it can be suppressed when the cricket is on, the rest days between games is where the story gets fanned further. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are professionals and they will put their heads down and go out to win matches for India but the story won’t stop even 20 years later.”
At present, the Indian national cricket team is busy in the West Indies and USA tour. In this tour, India have the schedule to play a three-match T20I series, three-match ODI series and two-match Test series against Windies. Both Kohli and Rohit are in all the three formats squads.
