After India faced an embarrassing defeat against Australia in the pink-ball Test, former Indian Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that India can turn the table even though they will be missing the service of Virat Kohli in the remaining three Test matches against Australia. He feels that Shumbman Gill and KL Rahul, who are likely to get the chance in the playing XI, can provide a good base to the team and India can dominate in the series.
Sunil Gavaskar shared some comforting words to India, who got the nightmare after the sudden collapse of the batting order in the second innings. India was dominating until day two and was the favourite to win the Test but the Australian bowler white-washed all the assumptions. The visitors were all out for just 36 runs, which became India’s lowest total score.
But the former Indian cricketer reckons that India should accept the situation and move on. He feels that his countrymen can also give the taste of that drastic defeat to Australian. Gavaskar finds fault in the host batting line up and believes that India can dominate against them.
“It is natural to be disappointed after such a performance. But anything can happen in cricket. What was the situation after the second day and what happened on the third day.”
“Indian team can also turn it around and win matches. We have seen that the Australian batting is also not that confident.”
The picture can change. I am positive about that: Sunil Gavaskar
As Virat Kohli will be leaving his team to attend the birth of his first child, Sunil Gavaskar said that KL Rahul is likely to be included in his place while Shubman Gill will replace struggling Prithvi Shaw. He opines that if the duo continues their good form in the series, India can change the picture.
“There are going to be two changes in the batting for sure. One, KL Rahul will probably come for Prithvi Shaw to open the batting. And Shubman Gill is likely to come at No.5 or No.6.”
“Their form has been quite good and if they come and give us a good start, then the picture can change. I am positive about that,” Sunil Gavaskar maintained.
Apart from Kohli, Mohammed Shami is also likely to be ruled out because of the fractured arm, which he sustained while batting in the second innings. His exclusion will be a huge blow for India as Ishant Sharma is also not available.
