Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has taken a subtle dig at India batting star Virat Kohli and it is bound to tickle the funny bones of every cricket fan.
During the ongoing Test between India and Bangladesh, India captain Virat Kohli once again came up with a sublime knock in the white jersey as he scored another double century to take his career tally to four double centuries.
In the process, Kohli became the first batsman to score double centuries in four consecutive series. Kohli, whose 246-ball knock was laced with 24 boundaries, surpassed legends including Donald Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who had scored double tons in three consecutive series.
The 28-year-old’s monumental knock of 204 runs eventually came to an end when he was trapped lbw off Taijul Islam. However, replays showed that the Indian star was struck outside the off stump and he would have got a reprieve if he had reviewed the umpire’s decision. But the Delhi star did not even bother to review and walked off the pitch acknowledging the supporters. But as he was walking towards the pavilion, Sunil Gavaskar came up with a hilarious comment.
Referring to Karun Nair, who was not included in the playing eleven despite scoring a triple century in the last Test, Gavaskar said that the Indian skipper would have suffered a similar fate if he had reviewed the decision. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that if Kohli had gone on to score a triple century, he would have missed the first Test against Australia just like Nair is missing this ongoing match.
