Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning to celebrate the golden jubilee of former great Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s Test debut. The Mumbaikar played his maiden Test against the West Indies on 6th March 1971 at the Port of Spain.
As reported by PTI, MCA will discuss this idea during the Apex Council meeting on 18th August. Earlier, the meeting was scheduled today but was postponed.
After scoring a consecutive century for Bombay (now Mumbai) in his debut Ranji Trophy season, Sunil Gavaskar earned the call from the national team for the West Indies tour in 1971.
In his debut series, he went on to score two consecutive half-centuries in the first Test following with a century and half-century in the second Test.

The little master scored another ton in the third Test with a double century in the last Test. His majestic innings had stunned the opposition and marked his entrance in international cricket.

MCA wants to celebrate the special occasion when India got it’s one of the best batsmen.
“To discuss about a plan to celebrate the occasion of Mr. Sunil Gavaskar completing 50 years of his Test Debut on 6th March 2021,” read the additional agenda, a copy of which is in possession of PTI.
The 71-year-old legend was the first batsman to cross the 10,000 runs milestone in Tests. He finished with 10,122 runs in 125 Tests with 34 hundreds and 3092 ODI runs from 108 games.

Further, The Apex Council will also be discussing Association’s proposed plan of a cricket museum to be set up at the Wankhede Stadium. Also, they shed light on some future planning, including conducting a virtual Annual General Meeting.
Ankit Chavan, who is facing a life ban for his alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing saga, had also appealed the BCCI to lift the ban. So, the members will also be analysing his request.
