Supreme Court Assigns Vinod Rai To Head Four-Member Panel In BCCI
The Supreme Court of India has given their verdict on BCCI’s future by picking up Vinod Rai to head the administration and also formed a four-member panel, who will monitor the day to day activities of the cricket’s autonomous body in India.
Vinod Rai, a former CAG, will be leading the panel that consists of well-reputed historian Ramachandra Guha, former women’s cricket captain Diana Edulji and managing director and CEO of IDFC limited Vikram Limaye. Among the four members only Diana Edulji is a cricketer, having played 20 Tests and 34 ODI’s for India in past.
Supreme Court also resolved BCCI’s problem of heading into the upcoming ICC meeting in Dubai with a known face, by picking Amitabh Chaudhary and Limaye for the job.
However, the name of the administrators were expected to be revealed last week, but it was Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, who requested the court to not announce the names for another two weeks, given the central government was planning to bring in a sports code.
Led by Justice Dipak Misra, the bench of Supreme Court asked BCCI to suggests administrators names from the board in a sealed envelope by January 27. Not finishing here, the bench also allowed cricket’s governing body in India to suggest three names who will represent the board in the ICC meetings in February.
On January 2, Supreme Court of India made a landmark decision to sack Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke from their respective posts on perjury grounds, which later created havoc in the board and forced all the state associations to adopt the recommendations laid by the Lodha Panel, which eventually most of them did.
