The Supreme Court will announce the punishment verdict against IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings on the 14th of July.
Along with the judgment on the franchises, the Supreme Court will also pass the verdict of punishment on Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan, the two tainted individuals related to the respective franchises. Kundra and Meiyappan were found guilty of placing bets on their respective teams in the IPL. This is bound to be a landmark judgment as the verdict delivered against the IPL sides will have several repercussions. The two sides, in an extreme judgment could be banned from the IPL as well.
The spot fixing matter was being looked into by the three member committee that was headed by the former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha. The Lodha committee was appointed by the Supreme Court of India on the 22nd of January this year.
The three judges in the committee are said to have done extensive research on the matter and analyzed every detail in depth. It was this panel, which made a rather “interesting” observation regarding the person truly controlling the BCCI. The panel had found that Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the BCCI, was in extremely poor health to run the board. The panel thus had doubted the presence of another individual who ran the BCCI.
