The Indian discarded batsman, Suresh Raina, failed to make his 100th first-class game a memorable one as Rohit Motwani caught the left-handed batsman on the first ball he faced in the innings from Chirag Khurana.

The skipper of Uttar Pradesh came to the crease when his side lost the second wicket on a score of 131, and within next three runs, UP lost two wickets more. Later though, middle-order came to team’s rescue and now, the home side is 80 runs away from Maharashtra’s total of 312 with three wickets in hands. Eklawya Dwivedi and Imtiaz Ahmed are batting for their team at the moment, and it would be decided in the first session whether UP will secure three points or will Maharashtra snare these points?
However, chances of a result in the game can’t also be ruled out. In case this happens, then the first innings lead system will be of no use. As of now, both the teams would be eyeing the first-innings lead to be on a safer side for the time being.
Meanwhile, Raina would like to improve his performance in the second innings of the game. This is his 100th first-class game, and he hasn’t had best of the starts to his landmark game. The Indian player would like to make this game a memorable one for himself.
Along with that, big scores at this level will also help him get back his place in the Indian team. It was in February early this year when Raina last played for India and is yet to be named in the 15-member squad after that. With selectors showing trust in him during Duleep Trophy, now its time for Raina to score runs and keep the selectors tied towards him.
