Suresh Raina To undergo Fitness Test To Present Case For Australia T20I Series
In a quest to be in line for selection in the T20I squad for the three-match T20I series against Australia, Suresh Raina will undergo a fitness test at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The news was confirmed by Raina himself, on the eve of the final of Duleep Trophy.
At present, he is leading the India Blue team in the final of Duleep Trophy against India Red and will straightaway fly to Bangalore for the fitness test after the game to put forward his case for a place in the national squad.
He has not been a regular member of the team from past two years now. Raina last played an international game in February this year against England, which was a T20I contest. Though he is a regular member of the T20I side lack of T20I games have meant that he is not the part of the squad on foreign tours. With India set to play three T20Is against Australia and New Zealand in coming months, Raina is all set t earn his place back.
With India set to play a total of six T20Is against Australia and New Zealand in coming months, Raina is all set to earn his place back.
However, he has to pass the fitness test for the same as earlier; it was reported that he was in contention to make his comeback to international cricket for Sri Lanka limited over series, but a failure in clearing Yo-Yo test cost him his place. He was not able to achieve the desired mark, which resulted in selectors not considering him for a place in the team. Along with him, Yuvraj Singh also failed to attain the fitness level.

With Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Head Coach Ravi Shastri and selectors putting extra stress on fitness level, it has now become a need for every player to remain fit to retain his place in the side.
The result of the fitness test will determine whether Raina will earn a call-up or not.
The three-match T20I series against Australia starts on October 7. The second and third game will be played on October 10 and 13 respectively.
