ToggleSuryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the upcoming Twenty20 Internationals against Sri Lanka. He was spotted at India’s practice session in Lucknow on Tuesday but the 31-year-old batsman has suffered a hairline fracture on his hand and been declared unfit for the white-ball series.
It remains unclear as to where and when exactly Suryakumar Yadav got hurt but it’s understood that he sustained the injury while fielding in the third T20I against West Indies at the Eden on February 20. Suryakumar Yadav, who was adjudged Player of the Series in the T20Is against West Indies, is the second Indian player to be out of the Sri Lanka T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav And Deepak Chahar Ruled Out Of T20Is Against Sri Lanka
With 107 runs to his credit, Suryakumar Yadav ended up as the 2nd highest run-getter of the 3-match T20I series against West Indies and bagged the Player of the Series award. In his short career, Suryakumar Yadav had already made a mark as he scored 4 fifties in the 12 T20I innings. Also, he scored two fifties in 7 ODI innings as well. But more importantly, he scored all these runs with a brisk pace.
Deepak Chahar has also been ruled out of the upcoming games in Lucknow and Dharamsala after picking up a hamstring injury in Kolkata. After dismissing the West Indies openers in the run chase, Deepak Chahar walked off the field holding his hamstring without completing his second over. He’s not travelled with the team to Lucknow.

Pace bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar pulled his right hamstring during the 3rd T20I against West Indies on Sunday. He might miss some part of IPL 2022 as well. His last 3 knocks in ODI cricket are- 69*(82), 54(34), and 38 (38). In 7 ODIs he picked a total of 10 wickets with an economy of 6.02 while in T20Is he picked 26 wickets in 20 matches with an economy of 8.27. The duo will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Presence As Vice-Captain Means BCCI Expected To May Not Name A Replacement For Deepak Chahar
The BCCI is not expected to name a replacement considering India have already been bolstered by the return of Jasprit Bumrah for this series. Jasprit Bumrah, who is returning after a break, has also been named vice-captain for the series. Apart from the 28-year-old, India also have pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel in the squad.

Above all, a replacement for either player at this stage will not be possible given the bio-security protocols. Consequently, this leaves India with a 16-member squad for the three white-ball games. After the first game on February 24, the next two T20Is will be played in Dharamsala on February 26 and 27.
Sanju Samson could be a direct middle-order batting replacement for Suryakumar Yadav in the XI for Sri Lanka matches as both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested besides pacer Shardul Thakur. Chennai Super Kings spent Rs 14 crore to bring back Deepak Chahar in the IPL mega auction. Mumbai Indians retained the 31-year-old Suryakumar Yadav for Rs 6 crore.
India’s T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan(wicket-keeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Jasprit Bumrah (Vice-Captain), Avesh Khan.
