3. Sunil Gavaskar’s Twin Centuries Against West Indies (January 2, 1978)

Sunil Gavaskar, one of the better batsman of his era has a flurry of records stitched to his name. One of them happened on this day 39 years back in 1978. During a Test match against West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata (Calcutta then), the right-handed batsman scored hundreds in both the innings of the match, 107 in first and 182 in the second one.
By scoring so, he became the first batsman ever to achieve such a feat in Test cricket three times, after doing it once against West Indies in Port-of-Spain and one against Pakistan in Karachi.
George Headley and Sir Clyde Walcott of West Indies were the ones to achieve this feat two times in Tests.
