Gautam Gambhir continued his torrid form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the southpaw scored just six runs, failing for the third consecutive in the tournament.
The Delhi team was up against Bipul Sharma-led Himachal Pradesh. Batting first, HP posted a total of 163 on the board, asking Delhi to score an extra run to win the game. Delhi had a poor start as they lost three wickets in first three overs of the game. The visiting team continued to lose regular wickets and could put up a total of just 115, losing the game by a margin of 48 runs.
Himchal Pradesh (Paras Dogra 42; Manana Sharma 3-17) defeated Delhi (Milind Kumar 31; Pankaj Jaiswal 4-22) by 48 runs at Nadaun.
After losing their first two games, Jammu and Kashmir made a strong comeback in the tournament as they stunned Punjab in a low-scoring thriller.
Batting first, J & K side posted a total 127 on the board. Pranav Gupta performed well with the bat as he played an innings of 52*, to stretch the team’s total to a respectable total.
Punjab had a decent start as first wicket of Manan Vohra and Pargat Singh put up 25 runs but then came the moment when Punjab line-up saw an epic downfall as they lost next four wickets in a matter of just one run. Their middle-order was quick to feel the pressure of the chase and eventually, Punjab got bundled out on a score of 101, handing Jammu and Kashmir their first win in three matches so far.
Jammu and Kashmir 127 (Pranav Gupta 52; Nikhil Chaudhary 3-36) defeated Punjab (Anmolpreet Singh 17; Umar Nazir 4-15) by 26 runs at Dharamsala.
Haryana (Rahul Tewatia 40; Nishan Singh 3-49) defeated Services (Rahul Singh 38; Jayant Yadav 1-21) by 16 runs at Dharamsala.
South Zone
Riding on a brilliant half-century from Vishal Deshpande and some economical bowling, Karnataka registered an emphatic win over Andhra Pradesh by 37 runs, to win their second game of the tournament.
Batting first, Karnataka did not have a good start as they lost the wicket of opener R Samarth in the first over but Mayank Agarwal and Shishir Bhavane steered the team ahead, to lay a strong foundation for a big score. Courtesy Pavan Deshpande’s brilliant 51 off just 28, Karnataka went on to post a total of 177.
Just like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh too had a poor start as they lost their opener Ashwin Hebbar cheaply but Kona Bharat and Hanuma Vihari shared 59 runs for the second wicket to keep the team’s hopes alive. It was after KS Bharat’s wicket when Andhra Pradesh lost the plot and ended their innings on 140.
Karnataka 177 (Pavan Deshpande 51; Ayyappa Bandaru 2-28) defeated Andhra Pradesh (Hanuma Vihari 55; Jagadeesha Suchith 2-30) by 37 runs at Chennai.
Hyderabad (Kolla Sumanth 46) defeated Kerala (Vishnu Vinod 37; Mohammed Siraj 2-30) defeats Kerala by five runs at Chennai.
Tamil Nadu 108/1 (Abhinav Mukund 68) defeated Goa 107/10 (Swapnil Asnodkar 33; Murugan Ashwin 2-17) by nine wickets at Chennai.
East Zone
Odisha (Anurag Sarangi 58; Varun Aaron 2-23) defeated Jharkhand 149 (Ishank Jaggi 47; Suryakant Pradhan 3-19) by three wickets at Kolkata.
