Mickey Arthur, head Coach of Pakistan cricket team, has raised his voice against T20 cricket and has said the shortest format of the game should be franchise dominated only to let the One-Day cricket enjoy the monopoly over it.
“I do think, though, that Twenty20 cricket should become franchise dominated,” Arthur said.
“I’ve never been a massive advocate of international Twenty20 cricket except a World Cup every two or three years, because that gets the best players together.
“International cricket belongs in the 50-over and Test cricket (formats) for me,” he added.
Arthur was in the stands during the clash between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat. His comments against the T20I cricket came after the former domestic veteran was mesmerised by the ‘Amazing Atmosphere’ in the stadium. “It was an amazing atmosphere – it’s show business, that reminded me of going to a basketball,” Arthur said.
“It was brilliant. As pure cricket, (it was) OK.
Arthur’s comments do mean something as there are ‘N’ number of T20 leagues going around the world and with the ICC T20 World Cup happening every two years, it’s an overdose of T20 cricket for fans.
The importance of T20 World Cup has even gone down a bit whereas the 50-over World Cup, which spans for around one and a half month, is still able to attract crowd as the event is played once every four years.
