Bangladesh have suffered a big blow ahead of India tour as the visiting team will miss out on the services of their opener, Tamil Iqbal. As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Tamim’s wife is expecting a child later this month. He had already informed BCB about his unavailability for the second Test and has withdrawn from T20Is too.
The board has announced experienced Imrul Kayes as his replacement. It is not confirmed that he will stay for the Test series but since Tamim is unavailable for the second Test, Kayes might be asked to stay in India for the complete tour.
The 32-year-old left-handed batsman has played 14 T20Is in which he has scored 119 runs. In 37 Tests, he has 1776 runs at 25.37. Kayes recently played for Bangladesh A with nominal returns but made a strong comeback in domestic cricket, scoring 202*, 93 and 22 in three innings that he played for Khulna Division in National Cricket League.
Iqbal, whom Kayes replaces, was already in doubt for the tour after he had suffered an injury during a practice session. He was named in the squad same day as he had suffered the injury.
Earlier, he had missed international season after he decided to take a break following the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Apart from Tamim, Bangladesh will also miss out on the services of all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin.
It also remains to be seen if Shakib-al-Hasan is available for the tour. As per a report in Cricbuzz, he is set to face legal action from the board as he has joined Grameenphone as its brand ambassador, which breaches terms of his central contract. Should the board take an action him, he could be dropped from the squad.
It is confirmed that the Bangladesh tour of India will take place as per the schedule as the players called off the strike a few days back.
