Tamim Iqbal Terms Bangladesh As Favourites For Sri Lanka Series
Bangladesh’s opening batsman Tamim Iqbal feels his side stands a great chance to win the Test series in Sri Lanka as the visiting side has the potential to deliver results in their favour.
“We all know it is a much important series for us and we think we should win the series,” Tamim was quoted as saying by bdcrictime.com
The 27-year-old Tamim said the visitors will look to win sessions as it makes quite a difference in longer format of the game before admitting the hosts are missing star players this time in the squad.
“Actually there are big differences from previous Sri Lanka team than the present one. They have no Jayawardene, Sangakkara now in their team that is full of young talents. I know the young guns of Sri Lanka has been playing well but I say Bangladesh is the favorite in this tour. It is possible to win Test matches in here,” Tamim said.
Last week, the left handed batsman smashed 136 runs which included seven sixes and nine fours against Sri Lankan Board President’s XI in a two-day warm-up match at Moratuwa Stadium ahead of the two-match Test series.
“We will have great potential to win if we could play as per our ability,” Tamim further said.
Last year, Bangladesh set an example at home against England when they drew the Test series 1-1.
Tamim further pointed out Sri Lanka have a good bunch of young players, but the visitors are mentally prepared to rise on the occasion.
“Everyone is mentally prepared. It is of no doubt, Sri Lanka is now a good young side. But our team have excellent potential too,” Tamim added.
However, the Chittagong-born Tamim has stated the weather condition in the Island has no alternative other than adjusting with the conditions.
“Boys are too serious. Hope that everyone will cope with the situation before beginning the Test series,” Tamim concluded.
Tamim has played 47 Tests for Bangladesh in which he has amassed 3,470 runs at an average of 38.98.
Bangladesh will play two Tests, three One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 internationals against Sri Lanka from March 7 to April 6.
