Team India must clean sweep the West Indies to retain the second position in ICC ranking 1

Indian team which is placed at the second position in the ICC ranking will have to clean sweep the West Indies in order to save their second position in the ICC Test ranking. Along with the Indian team, the Australian team too have to register a comprehensive win so as to prevent their first position in the ICC ranking. A loss here for both teams will result in loss of essential points which will have a negative consequence for both the teams as both the teams will be relegated in the ICC rankings if this happens.

The Indian team will kick off the Test series against West Indies from tomorrow whereas the Australian team will start its international assignment from July 26. Indian team is scheduled to play four Test matches whereas the Australian team will take on the hosts thrice in the longest format of the game.

Indian team is up against the eighth-ranked team in point stable. There is a difference of 44 points between the two teams. If Indian team is able to defeat the West Indies team by a margin of 3-0 then the team will stay at 112 points and will save their position in the points table whereas a loss by the same margin will see India losing 14 points which will be a bog loss for them and will also result in the team dropping down in the points table.

There is a difference of 33 points between Sri Lanka and Australia. The case is same with Australian team as a series win for them will see them ending at the top position whereas they may be dethroned from the top position in case they lost to Lankans.

The series is also an opportunity for Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane who is placed at 12th rank in the points table. He can climb up the stairs in case he is able to have a good show with the bat.
