Apart from the pay issues, one of the basic agendas of the meeting between Committee of Administrators (COA), Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri was the number of playing days. Indian team is playing another home season for the second running year and is all set to fly to South Africa for a long series just after the conclusion of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
However, the ongoing series would not have happened had BCCI heard the advice of the team management not to organise a full-fledged series against Sri Lanka. A report in TOI suggests that when the team management was told about a full-fledged home series against Sri Lanka, they wanted the board to reduce the number of matches, but that did not happen.
As a result of it, team India is playing Sri Lanka in a full-fledged series for the second time in the year and will again travel to the country for a T20I series next year.
Skipper Virat Kohli first raised playing days issue during a press conference ahead of the first Test match at Kolkata and soon took the matter in front of the COA during a meet a few days back.
Now the COA is expected to cut down the number of playing days to prevent possible burnout of players. Regular cricket from past more than one year has already seen team management creating almost two separate teams for Test and limited overs format, but skipper Virat Kohli is a member of both the teams and hence he is the player who takes the most load.
This is the first time after one and a half year that Kohli will be taking rest. He is not a part of the ODI team to face Sri Lanka, and Rohit Sharna will be leading the team.
Repos had suggested that he might be rested for the ongoing Feroz Shah Kotla Test but the Indian skipper decided to play the game.
With Indian team all set to fly South Africa just a couple of days after Sri Lanka series, team management would now like Test players to take enough of rest, the reason why many Test players haven’t been allowed to play Ranji Trophy and skipper Kohli might also be rested for T20I series as well.
