The shorter format of the game, the ODI game in particular has gone through a vast transition in the recent times. It was once played as a 60 over game but has now seen a lot of changes. Even around 10 years ago, ODI cricket was different. Not many would have dreamt of scoring something over 400 in 50 overs more than once. But many teams have reached this figure more than once in the history.

Here is a list of teams with most totals above 400 in ODIs:

India – 5

India has been a nation that has adjusted well to the complete transformation of ODI cricket. The players in the team seem to know when and where to be aggressive. With a lot of young players in the team, they have been ruthless at times against oppositions scoring 400 or more on 5 occasions. They have score 400 or more twice against neighbors Sri Lanka. Bermuda was dispatched in the group stages of the 2007 World Cup. West Indies and South Africa also felt the wrath of an in-form Indian line up.

South Africa – 5

South Africa have been one of the most exciting team in the recent years. The skipper de Villiers has taken his team to a completely different level and the attitude in the team is very positive. This helps them work as a team and they have been able to rip oppositions apart in different conditions. South Africa also have score 400 or more 5 time in the history. The first one that comes to mind is the mammoth 438 they scored in the chase against Australia at Jo’burg. Wes Indies gave South Africa scores of 400 or above in two occasion whereas Zimbabwe and Ireland were also hit for 400 runs by the Proteas.

Australia – 2

The World champions from down under, Australia are well known for their hard hitting. They are unstoppable when they are in form and not many can reach the heights that they can when in form. They have adapted to the changes in the formats of the game very well and have proven time and again that they are one of the best teams ever. They have scored 400 or above twice in their history. The first time at Jo’burg, the hosts got the better of them having chased down 434 in 50 overs. Afghanistan felt Australia’s wrath in the 2015 World Cup.

Sri Lanka – 2

The ever consistent Sri Lankan’s have a large pool of talent in their squad. They have produced some legends of the game and have always had their fare share of records. They hold the record for the highest team total in an ODI. Their 443 against Netherlands in 2006 is still the highest score by an ODI team in International cricket. They also gave a scare to India in Rajkot after the Indians set them a target of 415. Sri Lanka reached 411 in the 50 over’s and fell agonizingly short.

England – 1

The England batsmen are not quite known for big hitting all throughout the game. They are a team that relies a lot on the basics of cricket. But they have been able to mould themselves to the changes in the format. As a team, England had to take on this approach as the game was fast changing. Their first score of 400 as a team came in the ongoing series against the Black Caps. They scored 408 runs in their 50 overs and set up a record breaking 210 run victory.

New Zealand – 1

The New Zealand national team never lacked character. They have always been a force on the international stage and have given many teams some headaches. Their form in 2015 has been extraordinary as they went within touching distance of the World Cup where they were beaten by Australia. New Zealand as a team is known for its refreshing brand of cricket. They have scored above 400 runs only once in their history. The NZ team fancied their chances against Ireland at Aberdeen in 2008. They scored 402 runs in their 50 over’s and this still remains the highest team total for NZ
