The introduction of the limited-overs format in cricket has led the decline of interest in the Test matches. Nobody wants to invest its time in a long series. Gautam Gambhir is also of the same view. He admits that the Test Cricket should be evaluated so that it attracts the younger generation.

So to bring back the interest, ICC has introduced the World Test Championship. The World Test Championship has started this year from August with the Ashes 2019. Ashes are the five-match Test series where you can see the passion in the crowd. Crowded grounds and interesting innings attract everybody. In most Test series,  you neither find crowd nor that passion.

The World Test Championship has 71 matches in 27 series and a final will be played in the ground of Lord’s (London) in June 2021. In every match, the involving team(s) earn points according to the results. The two teams with higher points will play final.

Gautam Gambhir, the cricketer turned politician also does commentary, is of the view that it showed to be more appealing to millennials and the authorities should see into the matter.

“It is a no-brainer that Test cricket must jazz itself up to survive the onslaught of T20s and alternate entertainment options. I am a die-hard traditionalist, but Test cricket needs to appeal to the millennials. The core issues need to be addressed,” Gambhir said to TOI in an Interview.

He is also of the view that ICC should work on the standardisation of the cricket ball. England, Ireland, and West Indies use Dukes balls while India uses SG balls and others prefer Kookaburra.

“I can understand the commercial compulsions of this but it is strange to be in a common competition with variable apparatus,” Gambhir concluded.

The left-hand batsman Gautam Gambhir has played 58 Test matches and scored 4,154 runs with some outstanding performances.
