India batter Shreyas Iyer has thanked the medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for helping him recover, rehab, and gain 100% fitness after he was named in India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad which was announced on August 21, Monday.
Shreyas Iyer, along with KL Rahul had been recovering from their respective surgeries at the Bengaluru facility. Iyer had missed the New Zealand series at home after being named Player of the Series against Sri Lanka earlier this year due to a back issue.

He returned to the Indian Test team for the last two matches against Australia of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 but suffered a back strain which made him unavailable to bat in the Ahmedabad Test.
He then tried his best to get back into playing condition by avoiding surgery, but it was advised to him to undergo the operation and as a result, he missed the IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship final as well.
However, his surgery underwent successful and he recovered at the NCA facility since then.
Much Love And Much Appreciated: Shreyas Iyer To Staff At The NCA
Shreyas Iyer played a couple of practice matches before the India Asia cup 2023 squad was announced and it was reported by the NCA officials that he batted for over 35 overs and fielded the whole 50 overs without incident.
He was given the fitness certificate by the NCA doctors and hence was named in the Indian Asia Cup 2023 squad and will now potentially solve the no.4 conundrum that the Men in Blue has had.

As a mark of gratitude, Shreyas Iyer posted a heartfelt message on his social media thanking the NCA officials and named Dr. Nitin Patel and physio Rajni.
He posted: “Been a long journey but I’m super grateful to the people who stood by my side to help me to get where I am today. Thank you Nitin bhai and Rajini sir and everyone at The NCA, who’ve been tirelessly helping me. Much love and much appreciated”
