The recent Natwest T20 blast clash between Middlesex and Surrey had its fair dose of entertainment. The game was played on the 23rd of July at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London. Middlesex, the home side batted first and got to 185 -5 in the allocated 20 overs. In reply, Surrey could only manage 142-9, as the hosts won by 43 runs.

The game however, would be best remembered for the epic fail celebration of Middlesex opener Nick Gubbins. During the fourth over of Surrey’ chase, Steve Davies pulled a short of length delivery bowled by Kiwi pacer Mitchell McClaneghan. Davies didn’t time it to perfection as it landed straight into the hands of the fielder positioned at deep cover. The fielder was Nick Gubbins.

As soon as Gubbins grasped the catch, he set off on a celebratory run. Gubbins ran backwards as he faced the jubilant crowd, as he himself seemed to be on cloud nine. Immersed in celebrations, poor Gubbins didn’t take care while running backwards, and this was when his balance tipped off.

Gubbins fell down and instantly, the crowd burst out in laughter. Gubbins himself couldn’t control his emotions as he too got up laughing. More than anything else, it surely was an Epic Fail celebration!
