The Kia Oval 100th Test: Five Historic Moments At The Ground 1

1. Viv Richards Double Ton, Michael Holding’s Six-For Rattle England.

In the fifth match of The Wisden Trophy, in August 1976, West Indies thrashed England by whopping 231 runs at the Kia Oval, after significant performances from Vivian Richards and fast bowler Michael Holding floored the hosts.

Exceptional talent and brilliant batsman, Richards took on England’s bowlers while plundering the runs at his will.

The right-handed batsman smashed 291 off 386 deliveries to help his side to post daunting 687 for the loss of eight wickets in 182.5 overs.

England after scoring 435 in 129.5 overs while riding on the magnificent double hundred (203 off 320) of Dennis Amiss, was jolted again by Holding in the second innings, who went on to bag six wickets after conceding 57 runs.

It’s pertinent to mention, Holding bagged 14 wickets in the match after claiming 8 wickets in 33 overs while conceding 92 runs in first innings.
