Triangular Test Series

The most unsuccessful experiments in the history of Cricket 1

About a century ago in 1912, Australia and South Africa faced each other at Old Trafford, for the first Test match organised on a neutral venue to mark the start of an innovatively planned triangular test series. The 3 Test playing nations that time, the third being England, would play a round robin league of Test matches, meeting each other three times – nine matches in all across the five Test venues of England. But, the resulting cricket was painstakingly one-sided and failed to get anywhere near the expectations of administrators, spectators or press. Due to this the concept never quite took off.
