During Anil Kumble’s stint as the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team, reports suggested that he was extra possessive and treated players like school children, turning himself into a headmaster.
Players even complained about the same to BCCI, and in the end, it was Kumble who left the job, after the end of his contract.

Finally, Kumble opened up about the trait of Headmaster which he posses is an inherited value and the term headmaster came back later in his career as well,
“The self-belief, it comes from the values that you inculcate, looking up to your parents and grandparents. My grandfather was a headmaster in school and I know that term (headmaster) kept coming back to me later in my career. Some of them here will understand (what I am talking about),” he said during an interaction with Satya Nadella.
Though Kumble did not take the name of anyone, he was probably indicating towards that moment when he had to quit the job of Head Coach of Indian cricket team.
Kumble, the former India captain, was appointed as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team in June in the year 2016. He pipped likes Ravi Shastri, Venkatesh Prasad, Sandeep Patil and many others for the job.

However, a disagreement crept in the right from the start. Since Kumble’s contract was for one year, he stayed with the team and tendered his resignation just a day after India lost the final of the ICC Champions Trophy to Pakistan.

He decided not to travel with the team to West Indies, despite the fact that the BCCI extended his contract.

Kumble is yet to decide upon his next move, but there can be a case when he might join an IPL team in future. In the past, Kumble has been associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians in different roles. In fact, the role of chief mentor which he performed with Mumbai Indians, was the probably the lone coaching experience which he had, which also got him the coaching job of Indian cricket team.
Still, the time will tell whether Kumble will resume coaching or not.
