The much-awaited sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League is less than a week away. IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31 with a mouthwatering clash between defending champions Gujarat Titans and heavyweights Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
And as the tournament is all set to get underway, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has claimed that Royal Challengers Bangalore have the best bowling attack. Speaking on Star Sports, the former cricketer-turned-commentator opined that the Bengaluru-based franchise has good depth in their bowling attack. Manjrekar went as far as calling RCB’s bowling united perfect as he lavished praise on them.
“Their pace bowling has depth. Even if Hazlewood is not fit, then they have Topley. In spin, they have Wanindu Hasaranga. They have Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel. Their bowling is perfect and even Maxwell can bowl,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.
“In this IPL, according to me, the best bowling attack belongs to RCB and that is their combined X-factor,” Manjrekar added.
RCB eyeing maiden IPL title:
RCB will be desperate to end their long wait for a maiden IPL trophy this year. The Bengaluru-based outfit has performed consistently in recent years but have not managed to go all the way. They made it to the playoffs in the last three seasons and would be looking to go all the way this year.
They have not played an IPL final since losing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. Meanwhile, RCB have suffered some injury setbacks ahead of IPL 2023. One of their star batsmen from last year Rajat Patidar is looking set to miss at least the first half of the season with a heel injury while Josh Hazlewood is still recovering from an injury.
Recently, their English recruit Will Jacks was also ruled out of IPL 2023 with a muscle injury and has been replaced in the squad by Michael Bracewell. RCB will open their campaign with a home game against Mumbai Indians, before facing Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 6.
