This is Why Sourav Ganguly Had to Rush to BCCI Meeting in a Hired Taxi
For the guards of a five-star facility on EM Bypass in Kolkata, Tuesday (August 1) was an unusual day when a yellow ambassador taxi stopped near the gates.
When the doors of the taxi opened, stepped out someone who left one and all shell-shocked, as he was none other than Sourav Ganguly – the most loved son of the city, former India captain and the president of Cricket Association of Bengal.
Usually seen in the best of cars and especially the BMW in which he loves to travel, Ganguly was forced to hire a taxi and rush to the five-star hotel to attend the meeting of the BCCI’s technical committee after his car broke down at Exide crossing, one of Kolkata’s busiest places.
“The BMW broke down on Lee Road near Exide crossing. He hired a yellow taxi and rushed to the meeting,” confirmed Ganguly’s driver.
But despite Ganguly rushing to the meeting in a taxi, he could not reach the hotel on time and consequently, the meeting got delayed by half an hour. Afterwards, he chaired the meeting where several important decisions were taken like the one to revert back to the traditional ‘home and away’ format for the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy being a day-night affair once again.
Ganguly also urged the BCCI to consider a pay hike for the domestic cricketers playing in the Ranji Trophy.
Meanwhile, recently, Ganguly travelled in a train, which was his first train journey after nearly 15 years, to attend an event in Balurghat and unveil his eight-feet bronze statue.
The journey, nevertheless, was not a smooth one, as Ganguly had to be shifted to a different compartment after he found a fellow passenger seated in where he had initially been offered a seat.
