Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera has re-signed with Gloucestershire for the first two games of the Vitality T20 Blast.

The swashbuckling all-rounder is a well-known face in the international circuit and has been quite an asset for any T20 teams he had played for in his career so far.

Perera returns to Gloucestershire

Perera had earlier worked with Gloucestershire last year. He was with the county till August last year before he joined the Sri Lankan team for national duty.

Perera has been flown in as a cover for Andrew Tye. The Aussie medium pacer is plying trade for the country in the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe also involving the hosts and Pakistan. Tye is in terrific form and bowled quite brilliantly during the last T20I ahead of the final of the Tri-Series against Pakistan.

Australia eventually won a close-knit affair by five wickets and with a delivery to spare. Tye was the pick of Australia bowlers with figures of 3/28 in his four overs spell.

Perera will be available for the away games

As per reports in the BBC, the 29-year old Sri Lankan will be available for the away games against Somerset. It is slated to be held on Friday while they will meet Middlesex on Sunday.

The Chief executive of Gloucestershire, Will Brown was ecstatic after signing Perera. He feels a player of Perera’s calibre will be huge for Gloucestershire.

“Having a player of Thisara’s quality join the club is a huge coup for Gloucestershire,” he said.

Perera is a force to reckon with especially in the shortest format of the game. On his day, the southpaw can smash any star-bowling line-ups all around the park.

However, he hasn’t been consistent with the bat for the national team. He is an able medium pace bowler as well and can take wickets at crucial junctures of the game.
