The Lodha Committee recommendations have been a headache for BCCI officials and administrators from past few months. However, till now, these has had no affect on the players whatsoever as BCCI was conducting the international and domestic cricket smoothly but now it looks like the trend will break and the players will be the ultimate sufferers.
The Supreme Court has given a final warning to BCCI to implement the Lodha recommendations by today which BCCI looks unlikely to implement.
The Supreme Court is to deliver the final verdict today and it will be the domestic cricket which will be adversely affected as there are fair chances of the domestic season been called off after the verdict will be out. To take a note, more than 3000 players are currently playing domestic cricket which includes both men and women of all age groups. They will be the ultimate sufferer in the end.
“There is every possibility that Ranji Trophy may be stopped from the third day itself. If the board is not there, how can the matches be organized in such scenario? And it’s not only Ranji Trophy which is blue riband tournament. It also consists of Senior and Junior Women’s championship, our U-23, U-19 and U-16 championships. You need funds to carry out these BCCI matches smoothly,” a well-informed source told PTI on Thursday.
“If Lodha Committee, which is headed by former CJI, can’t force the members to accept the recommendations, do you think it is possible for the BCCI president to forcefully make them implement the resolutions. Yes, the Ranji Trophy is in a limbo,” the source added.
It will be the first time in the history of Indian cricket that a tournament will be halted due to the incapacity of funds. This will be a big shame for cricket as the future of small children and players will be at stake. It will be a big blow to the players who dreams of playing for India.
The court is yet to announce its decision but there are high possibilities that the decision will go against BCCI. Abandonment of domestic cricket will follow in that case.
