India’s all-rounder Irfan Pathan has decided to hang his boots from all forms of the game. Pathan had an illustrious career for the Indian team as he played 29 Tests, 120 ODIs and 24 T20Is for India, picking a total of 301 international wickets. The medium-pacer had great skills of moving the ball both ways and he was lethal with the new ball in all the three forms of the game.

Furthermore, Pathan was a handy batsman while batting down the order and provided the finishing touches for the team. The left-arm pacer had made his debut back in 2003 as a 19-year old youngster and played his swansong in 2012.

Pathan didn’t have the best of debuts as he returned with figures of 1-160 at Adelaide but he was able to pull up his socks in the upcoming years. Pathan gave some special performances for the Indian team and on his retirement, we take a look at his three best renditions.

Irfan Pathan bowled a magical first over in the third Test match at Karachi against arch-rivals Pakistan in 2006. Pathan got the big wickets of Salman Butt, Younis Khan, and Mohammad Yousuf in his very first over to push Pakistan on the ropes. The southpaw medium-pacer got the fourth ball to move away from Salman Butt and induced an outside edge which was neatly taken by Indian captain Rahul Dravid.

Subsequently, Pathan got the ball to move back into Pakistan’s skipper Younis Khan to plumb him right in front of the wickets. The left-arm pacer bowled an identical hat-trick ball to veteran batsman Mohammad Yousuf to find the gulf between the bat and pad to hit the stumps. Ergo, Pathan became the second Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the Test fold after Harbhajan Singh had done the same in 2001 Kolkata Test match.

However, Pathan’s efforts went in vain as Pakistan won that match by 341 runs.
